Norton Honorary Host of Two Issue Forums During Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Legislative Conference, Thursday
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will be the honorary host of two issue forums, one on black male teachers in the classroom and another on District of Columbia statehood, on Thursday, September 25 at the 44th Session of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Annual Legislative Conference (CBCF-ALC). Norton's first panel, entitled "2% is Not Enough: How Do We Get More Black Male Teachers in America's Classrooms?," will focus on the positive impact of having more black male teachers in the classroom, and her second panel, entitled "What the First Senate Hearing Means for Our Statehood Struggle," will focus on what to do with the unprecedented momentum generated by the first-ever D.C. statehood hearing in the Senate. Both panels will be held in Room 144-B at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Norton said that with the forums coming so soon after the Senate statehood hearing, it offers a public opportunity for residents and allies to discuss next steps for D.C. statehood. The CBCF-ALC draws thousands of local and national leaders to D.C. Today, Norton published a joint op-ed in Huffington Post with Teach For America alum and Harvard scholar Clint Smith on the topic of their panel on black male teachers.
