Norton in Delegation to Discuss Haiti Reconstruction with Haitian Ambassador Wednesday

January 26, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) tomorrow morning, Wednesday, January 27, will join members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for a press conference at the Haiti Embassy, 2311 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, at 9:45 a.m., after an 8:30 meeting with H.E. Raymond Alcide Joseph, Ambassador for the Republic of Haiti. Members will discuss reconstruction efforts after the January 12th earthquake in Haiti. Norton, chair, Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, is concerned about the hundreds of thousands of homeless and rootless Haitians, and she also believes the meeting will benefit a hearing she will hold next Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m., on lessons learned in the Haiti rescue and how the lessons can be applied in the U.S. in similar situations. The hearing next week will include testimony from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urban rescue team members who have assisted in recent rescue efforts in Haiti. Norton traveled with a CBC delegation to Haiti in 2008.
