Norton in Mount Pleasant Tonight to Get Feedback from Residents on Congressional Issues
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said she will hold a Norton in Your Neighborhood community conversation with residents from ANC 1D tonight, June 19, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the La Casa Community Center, 3166 Mount Pleasant Street NW. Norton will seek feedback from the Ward 1 Mt. Pleasant community on recent developments affecting the District in Congress. Among the issues Norton will discuss are a new breakthrough that would guarantee that the District government would not have to shut down if the federal government shuts down again because of congressional inaction on spending bills, a proposal in the Senate for the long-awaited moving of D.C.'s Frederick Douglass statue into the U.S. Capitol, continuing construction opportunities at federal sites in D.C., and other federal issues of interest to the community. The Congresswoman will also discuss the latest steps in the District's fight for budget autonomy, and her efforts to bring new jobs to D.C.
