Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host a “Norton in Your Neighborhood” conversation in conjunction with Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8A this evening, Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at the District of Columbia Department of Housing and Community Development (1800 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE).

Norton will engage District of Columbia residents about the effect of the Trump administration and a Republican-controlled Congress on D.C. and the nation; her bill to make D.C. the 51st state, just introduced last week at the same time Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson delivered to Congress a petition for statehood, as directed by 85 percent of D.C. voters in November’s statehood referendum; building on her success last Congress in defeating 26 attempts to block or overturn D.C.’s local laws, including eight attempts to overturn D.C.’s gun safety laws; continuing to protect the District’s budget autonomy referendum, which is now law, from being overturned; maintaining the record funding for D.C. Tuition Access Grants (DCTAG); the priorities she got for D.C. in the recent surface transportation bill; and other congressional issues of interest to the community.
