‘Norton in Your Neighborhood’ with Deanwood Residents in ANC 7D06, Tonight
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host a “Norton in Your Neighborhood” conversation in conjunction with ANC 7D06 and residents of the Deanwood community this evening, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at 6:30 p.m., at the Dorothy I. Height/Benning Neighborhood Library (3935 Benning Rd. NE).
Norton will engage residents in a conversation about her work this session that protected the District’s budget autonomy referendum from being overturned in the fiscal year 2017 continuing resolution; the unprecedented number of cosponsors for her D.C. statehood bill ahead of the November ballot initiative, where residents will vote whether they want D.C. to become the 51st state; protecting the funding increase she got for the D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant Program (DCTAG), which provides D.C. students up to $10,000 annually toward the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition at public four-year colleges and universities; increased funding Norton got for Metro as she works to convince Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld that permanently shutting down Metro’s late-night weekend service would hurt the D.C. and regional economy; her work in getting the National Park Service (NPS) to create an online portal to connect residents with NPS officials to improve D.C.’s NPS-owned neighborhood parks; and other congressional issues of interest to the community.
