Norton Invites District Residents to Testify at Unemployment Roundtable, Wednesday
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) invites District of Columbia residents to testify at Norton's upcoming unemployment roundtable, entitled "An Urgent Mission: Finding Jobs for Unemployed D.C. Residents," on Wednesday, October 29 at the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Room 412. This will be Norton's last roundtable of this Congress, and it will feature unemployment experts and focus on residents who have taken the brunt of the Great Recession in mid-career, now left unemployed; others who had always worked full time, now part time employees; some who went to college as they looked for a job, now young victims of the Great Recession; and others for whom work has always been elusive. Residents are encouraged to attend the roundtable to share their stories or simply to learn what can be done about today's unemployment and underemployment climate.
"Today's unemployment and underemployment is very different from typical turn-downs or recessions that usually come from the retraction of a sector or two, like the dot com recession of the 1990s," Norton said. "The mortgage meltdown brought down the financial sector and created a global recession. To find remedies, we look forward to hearing not only from experts but from residents caught through no fault of their own in the aftermath of the Great Recession."
Residents who wish to participate on the panel are urged to contact Tristan Breaux (202-408-9041) or Christy Gamble (202-225-8050) in Norton's office.
