Norton Meeting to Hear From Key Speakers and ANC Commissioners on Most Important Issues of the Year to D.C. Residents

June 9, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, June 10, 2010 Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host her annual "ANC's On the Hill" Reception and Meeting for ANC Commissioners on local and national issues affecting D.C. residents, who are also constituents of ANC commissioners. The meeting will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Congressional Meeting Room North in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.

In her letter of invitation to the ANCs, Norton said that they are neighborhood "first responders" on the effects of congressional legislation. The commissioners will be briefed and give feedback on how the health care and stimulus legislation specifically play out in the District, on the pending D.C. House Voting Rights Act, and on a dangerous stand-alone gun bill, as well as on jobs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security headquarters construction site, Metro safety updates, and the economy.

"It is critically important that all local officials periodically discuss or meet to exchange information and ideas in order to best meet the needs of our constituency," said Congresswoman Norton. "ANCs are closest to D.C. residents. Our annual meeting is necessary to ensure that our commissioners have the best and most up-to-date information."

Norton will also lead commissioners on a tour of the Capitol Visitor Center, which is under her subcommittee's jurisdiction.

The Congressional Meeting Room North is located between Independence Ave and Constitution Ave on the second lower level of the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center's First Street entrance.
