Norton on House Floor at 12:30 p.m. to Begin Series of Special Orders on Home Rule

March 2, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that the Congresswoman will lead a 30-minute special order on the House floor today, March 1, beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m., to educate new members and re-educate the rest of the House on the District of Columbia's right to self-government. This will be the first in a series of special orders that Norton will lead on the subject in the coming weeks and months. Norton has led a series of special orders on Home Rule in the past, but finds it even more necessary this year because of continuing attacks on D.C., including the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R.3803/S.2103), which would ban all abortions in the District of Columbia after 20 weeks, introduced by Representative Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).
