Norton Open House for D.C. Residents Today, Despite Republican Government Shutdown

October 1, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that despite the federal government shutdown, her office is open for business and the open house of her new District Office, planned by the NoMa Business Improvement District (NoMa BID), will take place as planned today, October 1, at 90 K St. NE, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. All District residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

"The Republicans can shut down the federal government, but it is my prerogative, under House guidelines, to decide whether to keep all employees working, and I have decided that our business of serving D.C. residents cannot stop," said Norton. "At a time when many people rightfully feel that Congress has turned its back on them, my open house will show we have not abandoned D.C. residents and will give them insight into the services our office offers without fail – from tax preparation, helping students and parents navigate how to get funds for college, to small business and job fairs."
