Norton Opens Computer Distribution Program for D.C. Schools
March 24, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC -- Following yesterday's Computers for Learning Program (CFL) kick-off at Kramer Middle School, where the General Services Administration (GSA) donated 28 computers, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) is taking the lead to encourage federal agencies and companies to donate unused computers and unused computer equipment to GSA for transfer to public and public charter schools and educational nonprofit organizations.
"I was astonished to learn that Kramer had only three computers for the entire school," said Norton. "We need an inventory of computers in our schools to determine its deficit and address it. These computers can help our children prepare for the technology focused workplace in this region."
Sponsored by GSA, CFL developed from Executive Order 12999, the Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for all Children in the Next Century. The program allows schools and nonprofit organizations to view and select the computer equipment that federal agencies have reported as excess.
