Norton Preparing a Resolution in Memory of Residents Lost in Metro Collision for Committee Consideration When Congress Returns
July 2, 2009
WASHING, D.C. - The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that she will seek mark-up of a resolution, to be co-sponsored by Members of this region, commemorating the lives of the nine residents of the Washington Metropolitan area lost in the recent Metro collision. After the resolution is approved by the committee of jurisdiction, the Government Reform and Oversight Committee, Norton and Members of the region will seek floor time for participation open to all Members of Congress.
Norton said, "This tragedy on ‘America's subway' has special meaning for the nation, the region, and the Congress. The nine victims shared daily use of the Metro system with the hundreds of thousands of congressional, federal, judicial, state, and local employees in this region. While we are taking many actions related to the collision itself, we must not forget the residents we have loss."
Congress is out of session this week and will return next Tuesday.
