Norton Receives Interim NPS Response to Letter on Hains Point Crash that Killed Two Pedestrians

May 25, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) received an interim response from the National Park Service (NPS) to her April 21, 2022, letter about the investigation into an automobile crash that killed two pedestrians at Hains Point last year. NPS has informed Norton that it had supplied the driver's name to the families of the victims, which they needed to file life insurance claims. Norton is still waiting for a response to her questions regarding the status of the investigation and the procedures for investigating traffic crashes on NPS land in the District of Columbia.

"I thank the National Park Service for providing the name of the driver to the victims' families, without which they could not proceed with their life insurance claims," Norton said. "However, this information was long overdue. I await NPS's response on their policies for investigating traffic crashes, and I will continue to work for greater transparency from NPS regarding the Hains Point crash and their investigations more broadly."
