Norton Remembers Gwen Ifill as Her Friend and Premier Journalist

November 14, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) expressed her profound sadness and deep condolences to the family of her friend, PBS NewsHour anchor Gwen Ifill, upon hearing of Gwen’s passing today. Norton issued the following statement.

“Gwen Ifill’s family will find they are far from alone as we learned of the passing of a great American journalist today. In a life cut short, Gwen managed to do it all in journalism because she had it all. I felt a special kinship to Gwen, who called the District of Columbia home for much of her professional life. Her expansive talents and brilliant insights, however, made her a world-class journalist. It must also be said that for African Americans and women still climbing to reach the heights of journalism, as Gwen did, her career was an inspirational beacon. As this election season closes, the country is grateful that despite her illness, Gwen managed to moderate one of the Democratic primary debates earlier this year.”
