Norton Remembers William Lockridge

January 13, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) issued the following statement on the passing of William Lockridge:

"The loss of William Lockridge will be felt all across this town, well beyond Wards 7 and 8, where he was the longest serving school board member. His deep roots in countless activities in this city and his extraordinary influence on public education made Lockridge a household name in the community and in D.C. politics. When I visited William's wife, Wanda, and his children, Joy and Stephan, as they conducted a twenty-four hour vigil at the hospital since he fell ill last week, I recalled the model family man that William was. William Lockridge lived a purposeful and passionate life for what he loved--for the D.C. public schools, for our community, and, above all, for his wonderful family, to which he was devoted. Wanda, Joy, and Stephan have my deepest condolences and love."
