WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) tomorrow will question the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) about the federal government's response to the 5.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the Washington, D.C. region on August 24, 2011. The Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, on which Norton is the ranking Democrat, will hold a hearing tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in Rayburn House Office Building room 2167 on "Streamlining Emergency Management: Improving Preparedness, Response, and Cutting Costs." Among the issues that Norton will address is OPM's response to unanticipated events, whether natural or man-made. Many have raised questions concerning the federal government's response, as it is the largest employer in the city and region.
