Norton’s D.C. Bicycle and Pedestrian Roundtable to Hear From Local Leaders, Thursday

October 26, 2016

D.C. Residents Will Also Have an Opportunity to Speak

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host a roundtable to hear from local bicycle and pedestrian leaders and District of Columbia residents on how to use the new bicycle and pedestrian funds Norton got included in the surface transportation bill for the District tomorrow, Thursday, October 27, 2016, at 6:00 p.m., in 2167 Rayburn House Office Building. As Ranking Member of the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee, Norton was one of the “Big Four” House Transportation leaders who wrote the FAST Act and overcame Republican resistance to including bicycle and pedestrian funding in the bill. Norton will sit on a panel with District Department of Transportation Director Leif A. Dormsjo and National Park Service National Capital Region Director Bob Vogel. They will hear testimony from the Washington Area Bicyclists Association, All Walks DC, and the D.C. Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Councils. D.C. residents will have an opportunity to voice opinions and ask questions as well.

“We are pleased by the excitement from the bicycle and pedestrian communities for our roundtable,” Norton said. “The participation of the public should help ensure that the FAST Act’s new federal bicycle and pedestrian funds are being put to the best use for D.C. residents,” Norton said. “D.C. is proud to be one of the most bikeable and walkable cities in the nation, with more and more residents opting for alternative transportation. I look forward to hearing feedback from residents and local leaders from the bicycle and pedestrian communities.”
