Norton’s Federal Judicial Law Enforcement Nominating Commission Accepting Applications for Presidentially-Appointed U.S. Parole Commission Position

February 11, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that her Federal Judicial Law Enforcement Nominating Commission is accepting Applications for a vacancy on the U.S. Parole Commission until March 9, 2015, a two-week extension from previous February 22 deadline. The vacancy on the commission was created by the retirement of Chairman Isaac Fulwood, who Norton recommended to President Obama. President Obama, like President Clinton, granted Norton senatorial courtesy for some Parole Commission vacancies because the District falls under its jurisdiction.

The position is nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate. The position is a 6-year term with the possibility to serve up to 12 years. U.S. Parole commissioners have an influential role in helping to reduce crime and improve the reintegration of returning citizens into society. Experience with the criminal justice system is preferred, but not required.

Interested candidates should include in their applications a résumé and a letter of interest outlining their qualifications and reasons they want the position.

Applications should be sent to:
