Norton Says D.C. Residents Seeking Affordable Health Care Coverage can Learn from Story Told by D.C. Resident at Democratic Caucus Retreat

WASHINGTON, DC – Upon returning from the House Democratic Caucus retreat in Cambridge, Maryland today, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said she was very proud of Ari Goldman, a 32-year-old D.C. resident who spoke at the retreat this morning about his positive experience obtaining quality, affordable health care coverage through D.C. Health Link, with the help of a free broker. Goldman, who is self-employed and has two common preexisting conditions, contacted D.C. Health Link when he received a cancelation notice for his previous insurance plan. He was then directed to a free broker, who walked him through the health insurance sign-up process. Goldman was able to keep his previous doctors and now saves $200 per month. All D.C. Health Link brokers are available free of charge to all residents regardless of income. They are appointed by each insurance company and have successfully completed training by D.C. Health Link. They are experts and are trained to advise residents about what plan is best for them.

"Ari Goldman told our entire Democratic Caucus retreat about his success in getting affordable health care coverage through D.C. Health Link," said Norton. "After the President spoke to the Caucus, I highlighted Ari's story and asked the President to work with Democrats to help us bring the national spotlight to more stories like Ari's, instead of allowing the news to be all about negative Obamacare stories. Ari's experience should encourage other residents to sign up for health insurance before the fast approaching March 31 deadline. Ari's experience also points up free help from brokers available to every resident regardless of income seeking information or help with the Affordable Care Act. D.C. Health Link has done a good job signing up residents for affordable health care coverage. However, all residents should know that assistance is available from free brokers as well."
