Norton Says Funding for St. Elizabeths DHS Consolidation Project in Spending Bill Released Today Will Make Country Safer
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said that the House's fiscal year 2022 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill, released today, provides $254 million for the General Services Administration for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) consolidation project at the St. Elizabeths West Campus in Ward 8 in the District of Columbia.
"The St. Elizabeths consolidation project is immensely important to the federal government and the District of Columbia," Norton said. "DHS agencies are in expensive leased spaces across the National Capital Region. Consolidating the headquarters of these agencies to one campus here will improve national security coordination and cooperation, while reducing the federal government's footprint and saving taxpayer money. DHS consolidation will also lead to more spending in D.C. by DHS employees, assisting the D.C. economy. The funding in the spending bill that the House released today will go a long way to complete the project, improve DHS operations and ultimately make our country safer."
Norton has long supported the consolidation project and has secured more than $2 billion for the project.
