Norton Says GSA IG Report Shows Inexcusable Spending and Violations

April 6, 2012

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) issued the following statement on the General Services Administration (GSA) 2010 Western Regional Conference:

"After reading the GSA Inspector General's report on the GSA conference, I was astonished and deeply disappointed with the serial violations of government regulations condoned or approved by high-level GSA officials. From planning to execution, officials seemed oblivious to their own rules or intentionally seeking ways to undermine them. I am stunned by the squandering of taxpayer funds at a time when millions of Americans were still feeling the effects of the 2008 financial crisis. I join President Obama in condemning the spending, contracting and other excesses that characterized the conference. As Ranking Member of the subcommittee of jurisdiction, I am grateful to President Obama for taking immediate action, and commend him for quickly turning to Dan Tangherlini, an accomplished and proven administrator known for the highest personal ethics, and for requiring the same of all who work for him."
