Norton Says She Will Fight Any Further Attempts to Overturn D.C. Budget Autonomy Referendum after Historic Home-Rule Court Victory

March 18, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) congratulated District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and the D.C. Council on a historic home-rule victory after the D.C. Superior Court today upheld the budget autonomy referendum approved by D.C. voters in 2013. Norton said she hopes the D.C. Attorney General and Chief Financial Officer will accept this decision without further appeal. Norton is still analyzing the decision, but said that she will continue to vigorously defend the referendum from congressional interference, as she has successfully done since it was approved by D.C. voters in 2013.
