Norton Statement on Jim Moran Retirement Announcement
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today made the following statement on Congressman Jim Moran's (D-VA) announcement that he will not seek reelection in 2014.
"I am beside myself that Jim Moran, one of my closest friends in the Congress and my congressional classmate, has decided to give up his seat and to leave the House. I will miss Jim's friendship, and I will especially miss his partnership on not only national legislation, but also on virtually everything we have done here for the District of Columbia. The regional delegation, our party, the Congress and the country will be at a great loss without Jim Moran, a senior leader on the House Appropriations Committee. In that role, he has been successful in helping to get the country's funding process back on track, and I will join his call for the House and Senate to pass the vital omnibus spending bill. Virginia, this region, and, I know, many of my colleagues join me in saying, ‘Jim don't go!'"
