Norton Statement on Passing of Cokie Roberts

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) released the following statement on the passing of Cokie Roberts:

"Cokie Roberts was a pioneering, award-winning journalist even when women were often excluded in the 1970s. Journalists have an incredible responsibility to hold power accountable and to report the truth. Cokie excelled at both, spending decades right here in the nation's capital working for NPR and other media, and in the process, inspired women throughout the country who decided to become journalists.

"Cokie was a friend of mine. She and her family are in the thoughts and prayers of many of us in the Congress, and the District, where she grew up as the daughter of former House Majority Leader Thomas Hale Boggs. She will be missed."
