June 25, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today issued the following statement extending her deepest condolences to the family of Angel Irene on his passing.

"Our city will miss Angel Irene, a long-time District resident and lifetime Latino advocate. As Executive Director of Vida Senior Centers, the oldest nonprofit in the District assisting the Latino community, and in many other roles, Mr. Irene has left our city a long and outstanding legacy. Many will remember his work with my predecessor, Walter Fauntroy, and the important part he played in the creation of several District of Columbia government agencies. Angel Irene also was the first Latino social worker to serve the D.C. chapter of the Red Cross. Mr. Irene's family has my deepest condolences."
