Norton Statement on the Passing of Peggy Cooper Cafritz

February 19, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released the following statement on the passing of Peggy Cooper Cafritz, co-founder of the Duke Ellington School of Arts in the District of Columbia.

"Peggy has long been a personal friend, but she was also a devoted friend to the District of Columbia. Her most lasting legacy in the District, of course, is the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, which she created and envisioned as a world-class institution when others simply worried about our public schools. As untimely as her passing is, Peggy lived to see her vision modernized with the completion of the new, beautiful Duke Ellington School of the Arts and hundreds of students return to campus."
