Norton Statement on the Passing of Virginia Williams, Mother of Former D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today made the following statement on the passing of Virginia Williams, the mother of former D.C. Mayor Anthony Williams, at age 87.
"I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Virginia Williams, who generously served our city and especially its children and families as a ‘First Mom,' even after her son, Mayor Anthony Williams, left office. A woman of multiple talents and great energy, she not only adopted Tony and raised him to be a success in life, she came to D.C. to help him continue to succeed and our city to thrive. After Virginia Williams moved to the District from California, she imbedded herself deeply in the fabric of our city and had an enormous and lasting impact. Our residents would agree that Virginia Williams earned the title ‘First Mom.'"
