Norton Thanks Leader Pelosi for Choosing D.C. Statehood as the Democrats’ Social Media Message of the Day Ahead of July 4th

July 2, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) again thanked House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for her longtime support for autonomy, voting rights and statehood for the District of Columbia, after Leader Pelosi made Norton's tweet today on D.C. statehood the "Digital Dems Early Bird," which is a Member tweet each workday on a Democratic Caucus priority that Members are asked to retweet. In her tweet, Norton said, "This July 4, we renew our fight to end #TaxationWithoutRepresentation in the nation's capital with #DCStatehood!"

"We take great joy that Leader Pelosi chose D.C. statehood as the Democratic tweet ahead of July 4th in particular," Norton said. "Already the tweet is being retweeted all over the country and the world. Social media is our best chance to conquer our frustration that most Americans are totally unaware that D.C residents do not have the same rights as all other Americans. Making D.C. statehood a priority ahead of July 4th is causing the astonishing truth about D.C.'s unequal status to resonate around the country and the world. Our inequality as American citizens cannot endure once enough Americans get wind of it."
