Norton Thanks National and Local Groups for Letter Opposing Riders on D.C. Spending Bill

June 30, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today thanked the dozens of national and local groups, led by DC Vote, that sent a letter yesterday to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees opposing any anti-home-rule riders on the fiscal year 2022 D.C. Appropriations bill. Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee passed the bill, which did not contain any anti-home-rule riders.

"Thank you to DC Vote and all the organizations that signed the letter," Norton said. "Congress must respect D.C.'s right to self-government, including allowing D.C. to spend its local funds as it sees fit."

The enacted fiscal year 2021 D.C. Appropriations bill prohibits D.C. from spending its local funds on abortions for low-income women and on commercializing recreational marijuana."
