Norton to Address How D.C. Moved From Desegregation to New Challenges in Keynote Speech Sunday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer keynote remarks to The Transition Network of the District of Columbia on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at the National City Christian Church (5 Thomas Circle NW) at 2:00 p.m. The Congresswoman will set the scene for a panel of women who will speak about their experience integrating some of the city's neighborhoods.

"Citizens led the way to desegregation, moving the District away from legally segregated public schools and public accommodations and toward integration of some neighborhoods," Norton said. "As with most such successes, a new set of issues has emerged, including a city with the third largest income gap in the country, a city where whites are moving in instead of moving away, and a city where black migration has become significant."
