Norton to Announce Congressional Art Competition Winners at Awards and Prizes Ceremony, Tomorrow
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will announce the winners of the annual Congressional Art Competition, including the first place winner, whose artwork will hang in the Capitol, at an awards and prizes ceremony for District of Columbia students, parents and teachers tomorrow, Tuesday, June 5, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (1050 First St NE). All student participants who attend the awards ceremony will have the opportunity to enter a silent raffle to win free art supplies, tickets for entertainment, cultural and sports events, and gift cards for local restaurants.
"Like me, I know our students, parents and teachers are greatly anticipating the always terrific artwork of our talented D.C. students and to hear the list of winners," Norton said. "I am particularly grateful to the artists and jurors of our D.C. Congressional Art Competition Committee, who volunteer their time and energy to make this competition a success every year."
The first place winner will have his or her artwork hang for one year in the National Exhibit at the Capitol, receive a four-year partial scholarship to the Savannah College of Art & Design, receive a $100 Blick gift card and an art portfolio. The second place winner will receive a summer scholarship to the Corcoran School for the Arts and Design, a one-year membership to the Kreeger Museum, a $50 BLICK gift card and an art portfolio. The third place winner will receive a summer scholarship to the University of the District of Columbia, a $50 BLICK gift card and an art portfolio.
