Norton to Appear on ‘Crossroads’ with Roach Brown to Discuss Her Work Helping D.C. Inmates Housed by BOP, Today

June 5, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will appear on Roach Brown's radio show "Crossroads" on WPFW (89.3 FM) today, Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., live from Ben's Chili Bowl (1213 U St. NW). Norton will discuss her efforts on numerous critical issues impacting District of Columbia code felons, the only local felons housed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).

When the District nearly became insolvent during the 1990s, the mayor and the D.C. Council decided to give up control over the District's state corrections functions. Norton said that while D.C. has said it is not yet financially ready to take back state corrections functions, she has successfully worked to get most D.C. code felons housed within 500 miles of the District. During the Obama administration, the Congresswoman came close to getting a nearby prison in Maryland dedicated to housing both male and female D.C. code felons to enable families to more easily visit.
