Norton to Attend Memorial Service for Those Who Lost Their Lives at Navy Yard Shooting

September 22, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today at 4:30 p.m. will attend the memorial service at the Marine Barracks (corner of 8th and I Streets SE), for the 12 victims whose lives were taken during the Navy Yard tragedy on Monday. Norton has spoken with Priscilla Daniels, the wife of Arthur Daniels, a victim of the tragedy, who was a D.C. resident and handyman at the Navy Yard, to express her sympathy and offer assistance.

"Most of us in the District did not know those who were killed in the Navy Yard tragedy," said Norton. "Nevertheless, we feel deeply for their families and friends who, like us, are bewildered by an attack on a secure facility that nevertheless has become a part of our D.C. neighborhood. I hope we get to know more about the victims at the memorial service in their honor, as I have learned more about Arthur Daniels from his wife, Priscilla. The President will be speaking for the country, but also for our city and the Navy Yard neighborhood."

On Tuesday, Norton offered remarks and led a moment of silence on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in memory of the Navy Yard shooting victims.
