Norton to Attend Service for D.C. Soldier Killed in Afghanistan
July 11, 2007
Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today ( Wednesday, July 11) will attend the 10 AM graveside service of Captain Darrell C. Lewis of the District of Columbia, who was killed on June 23rd in Afghanistan, at Arlington National Cemetery. The 31-year old Army Reserve soldier grew up in Southeast Washington. Lewis is survived by his parents and other relatives who live in the District, and his wife and two young children.
Lewis is the fifth D.C. resident to die in Afghanistan and Iraq. "As much as I regret and oppose the Iraq War and the surge, I will always join family and friends in supporting and mourning the District's brave men and women who risk and lose their lives fighting for democracy overseas while being denied full democracy at home," Norton said.
