WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will go to the White House tomorrow, Wednesday, December 15, at 5:00 p.m., for the signing of her bill to rename the historic U.S. Post Office at 2 Massachusetts Avenue NE after the "Godmother of the Civil Rights Movement," Dr. Dorothy I. Height.
"With the President's signature, this bill will mark a historic milestone because it will make Dr. Height the first African American woman to have a federal building in the nation's capital named in her honor," said Norton. "Dorothy Height, who became an iconic messenger for social justice, lived in the District of Columbia for years. I know that residents and visitors alike will understand the symbolism of this special recognition for one of America's great women."
The bill passed the House in September and passed the Senate earlier this month.
