Norton to Attend WMATA Auditions for Lunchtime Music on the Mall
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) this evening, Tuesday, June 4, 2103, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., at 600 5th St. NW, will attend auditions held by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) for Lunchtime Music on the Mall and the "MetroPerforms!" series. Lunchtime Music on the Mall is sponsored by WMATA, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and the National Park Service (NPS), in conjunction with Norton. Norton said she is pleased that WMATA's efforts are enlivening outdoor areas in the city. Lunchtime Music on the Mall brings local and regional musicians to the National Mall to perform during the lunchtime hours, giving visitors as well as federal and other office workers downtown a break from the pace of business in Washington. The performances kicked-off last week and will take place every Tuesday and Thursday during the summer months from noon to 1:00 p.m. on the National Mall, on Madison Dr. SW, between 4th St. and 7th St., directly across from the steps of the National Gallery of Art. The D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities selects and brings the performers to the Mall on Tuesdays, and WMATA does so on Thursdays.
"WMATA and Michael McBride of Metro's Art in Transit Program are helping to raise the profile of the musical talent of our city and regional residents and portray Washington's many facets, so that we are understood to be not only a federal government town," said Norton.
