Norton to Bring as Her Guest to State of the Union Father of Local D.C. Journalist, Charnice Milton, Who Was Shot and Killed Last Year
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that she will bring Kenneth McClenton, the father of Charnice Milton, a District of Columbia journalist who was shot and killed while returning home from an assignment in May, 2015, as her guest to the State of the Union tomorrow evening. Ms. Milton, who was 27 years old, worked for Capital Community News and had written for the Hill Rag.
“Each Member of the House has only one ticket to the President’s State of the Union,” Norton said. “With the spike in gun violence in D.C., I could not be more pleased to join with a number of us in the House who are inviting relatives of victims of gun violence to raise this safety issue to a higher level of concern. I appreciate that my constituent, Kenneth McClenton has agreed to be my guest. Mr. McClenton and Charnice’s mother, Francine, understand better than most why more gun safety legislation is necessary today. Too many D.C. residents and other Americans across the country have experienced the overwhelming pain of losing a loved one to gun violence. I am welcoming Mr. McClenton to the State of the Union to honor the memory of his daughter and other families. We have not forgotten Charnice, lost to us in the prime of a life full of accomplishments, even at 27. Her father is an excellent representative of the many families who have experienced such irreplaceable loss.”
