Norton to Discuss Dangerous Gun Amendment and Other Issues on News 8 Today

April 7, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will be a guest today, Tuesday, April 7, 4 p.m., on News Channel 8’s “News Talk” with Bruce DePuyt to discuss new momentum to remove the dangerous gun amendment from the D.C. House Voting Rights bill in light of recent mass shootings. This appearance follows a hearing the Congresswoman led last Friday where federal and law enforcement officials told how the gun amendment would jeopardize homeland security, and public safety in the national capital region, undermining major efforts and millions in investments to shore up the area since it was hit on 9/11. The gun amendment would strip the District of all gun control laws, allow individuals released from mental institutions to buy guns immediately after their release, and allow individuals to purchase high-powered guns and ammunition, with no limits. The Congresswoman appeared this morning on CNN addressing the gun amendment.

“If this gun bill is attached and somebody gets hurt, there’s going to be blowback. They’ll want to know, ‘who let this bill pass?’” Norton told CNN yesterday. Click here for video: https://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2009/04/07/am.acosta.gun.control.mxf.cnn?iref=videosearch
