Norton to Give Keynote Address and Receive Award at Association of Black Women Attorneys’ 40th Anniversary Event, Tomorrow
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s (D-DC) work for women’s rights will take her to New York City on Thursday, April 14, 2016, and on Friday, April 15, 2016. On Thursday evening, she will present one of the National Action Network’s (NAN) “Keeper of the Dream” awards to Gloria Steinem. She will remain in New York on Friday to receive the Constance Baker Motley Lifetime Achievement Award and give the keynote address at the 40th anniversary commemoration of the Association of Black Women Attorneys (ABWA) at the Rainbow Room (30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY).
“It is a great honor to be recognized by distinguished women in my chosen profession as a lawyer, and particularly by the Association of Black Women Attorneys, which has played a guiding role in encouraging black women to become lawyers,” Norton said. “I am pleased to return to New York where I practiced law as a young attorney to receive this award. The award is all the more appreciated because it is named for Constance Baker Motley, a pioneer whose life in the law has been an inspiration to me.”
