Norton to Highlight Threats to Food Stamp Program at Celebration for New Capital Area Food Bank Distribution Center
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak about the threats facing the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, that kept Republicans from passing the 2013 farm bill at the celebration for the new Capital Area Food Bank distribution center on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 4900 Puerto Rico Avenue NE at 2:30 p.m.
"The Capital Area Food Bank is the face of relief for all the region's food banks that feed our poor families and middle class Americans trying to recover from the recession of 2008," Norton said. "In seeking funds to help the Capital Area Food Bank meet escalating needs, I have found Congress receptive to this extraordinary mother ship staffed mainly by volunteers."
