Norton to Hold a Community Conversation in Brightwood Park, Tonight

August 5, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – In her first neighborhood event since Congress left for August recess, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will hold a Norton in Your Neighborhood with the Brightwood Park Citizens Association at the Emery Recreation Center (5701 Georgia Avenue NW), from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Norton will offer a critique of the controversial 113th congressional session thus far, and will brief residents on current congressional issues affecting them, including her new role as the Democratic leader of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee and how it will benefit the District, the status of the Walter Reed project, unusually positive progress on D.C. budget autonomy, changes that may be coming to the Height Act, her bill to reauthorize the popular $5,000 first-time homebuyer tax credit and business tax incentives in D.C., and the opening of the new U.S. Coast Guard headquarters. Above all, Norton said, she wants to hear feedback from her constituents.

"As we begin the congressional August recess, our work here in the District picks up steam," said Norton. "There is no better way to update D.C. residents and to get their feedback than with our community conversations. Even though this Congress, led by the Republican House, is on pace to be the least productive in history, there are promising developments that directly affect D.C. residents."
