Norton to Hold Annual Jobs and Opportunities Fair Thursday, August 23 at Washington Convention Center
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will hold her annual Jobs and Opportunities Fair on Thursday, August 23, 2012, featuring "Top Ten Job Tips" workshops and a "Ready to Work" fashion show from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and the Job Fair from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center (800 Mount Vernon Place NW – near New York Avenue NW and 7th Street NW). This year's job fair will feature nearly 100 employers with open jobs. The 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. "Top Ten Job Tips" workshop will feature strategies on professional development to help attendees craft a better resume, perform well in a job interview, apply for temporary and federal jobs, as well as jobs in the hospitality sector, a fast-growing industry. Norton's staff will take to the runway with fashions fit for a variety of jobs. The job fair is open to D.C. residents only. Job-seekers must bring a photo ID, utility bill, or other proof of District residency.
"The District's unemployment rate is still higher than the national average. Our job fair saves job-seekers from traipsing around the region or the internet by bringing employers under one roof for D.C. residents," Norton said. "Residents should bring their resumes and dress to impress the scores of employers that will have lists of job openings. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with representatives from trade and professional schools."
