June 14, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC -- On Wednesday, June 15, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host her annual reception and meeting for ANC Commissioners, "ANC's On the Hill," on pressing local and national issues affecting D.C. residents, with particular focus on the D.C. appropriations bill scheduled for mark-up on Thursday. Refreshments will be served at the reception and information session. The meeting will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in 2253 Rayburn. Issues to be discussed include keeping DC Tuition Assistance Grants from being means-tested, the Paul Ryan (R-WI) budget proposal, and jobs and small business opportunities in D.C. The meeting will also feature an expert discussing how the Ryan proposal to end Medicare and cut Medicaid would affect D.C. residents, and a small businesswoman who won a contract at the Department of Homeland Security headquarters construction site in Ward 8 sharing how she secures business with the federal government.
"ANC Commissioners are our frontline elected officials in the District," said Congresswoman Norton. "Our annual meeting with ANCs is necessary to ensure that our commissioners have the best and most current inside information to share with their constituents and to give us significant feedback on our work."
Norton also will lead commissioners on a tour of the Capitol Visitor Center, which is under her subcommittee's jurisdiction and is fueling D.C.'s economy with new rounds of tourists.
