Norton to Hold Women’s History Month Panel Discussion with Women in Interesting STEM Fields and Students, Thursday
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will celebrate Women’s History Month with women who enjoy careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields in a dialogue with students at the Washington Math and Science Public Charter School (1920 Bladensburg Rd. NW), on Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Norton will moderate a panel featuring Veronica Johnson, News4 meteorologist; Kathleen Penney, vice president of the engineering company CH2M Hill; and students from Washington Math and Science Public Charter School who aspire to pursue careers in STEM fields.
“Our Women’s History Month panel will expose young people to conversations with women STEM professionals who do not meet the white coat stereotype of scientists to point up the extraordinary range of opportunities for young women who prepare themselves in STEM fields,” said Norton. “Veronica Johnson, a meteorologist they see on TV, and Kathleen Penney, who has taken her engineering degree to a successful business career, will show students that lab coats and test tubes do not tell all about the countless careers that need and want women today.”
