Norton to Honor a Pillar of the D.C. Community at Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration to Introduce the Community to the D.C. Health Care Exchange, Tuesday
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will begin her Hispanic Heritage Month celebration by honoring Maria Gomez, President and CEO of Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care, and recipient of the 2012 Presidential Citizens Medal, for her work on health care, education, and social services in the Hispanic community. The event, which will take place Tuesday, October 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., at the Carlos Rosario Educational Center (1100 Harvard St. NW), will help residents learn how to use the new D.C. health care exchange, D.C. Health Link. The experts, who will offer practical information about how to get affordable health insurance using D.C. Health Link, are Diane Lewis, Chair of the D.C. Health Benefits Exchange Authority Executive Board, Alicia Wilson, La Clínica del Pueblo Executive Director and an in-person assister for D.C. Health Link, and Angela Franco, Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President and CEO and an in-person assister for D.C. Health Link. The event is open to all D.C. residents and the media.
"D.C. residents at the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will get a firsthand common-sense explanation of how to get affordable health care, and a special bonus with the honor we will present to Maria Gomez," said Norton.
