Norton to Honor Veterans at Habitat for Humanity Event Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will give remarks honoring D.C. and other American veterans at a Habitat for Humanity home dedication ceremony on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at 1830 Providence Street NE. The new house belongs to Ken Harris, an Army veteran who became homeless after serving his country. In 2008, he began a new chapter in his life by finding assistance through veterans' programs, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. The house Norton will help dedicate with Harris on Saturday is one of 14 on and around Providence Street NE that Habitat for Humanity has either constructed or rehabilitated and that will be sold to families in need who agree to work with Habitat for Humanity.

"This Habitat for Humanity home dedication ceremony is a shining example of our country looking after those who served in our military," Norton said. "Habitat homes in this area have created a virtual Habitat community of self-sufficient residents. I am particularly pleased to help dedicate this home to Ken Harris, a D.C. veteran, and to celebrate his service to the nation. In doing so, I am saluting the service of all our D.C. veterans as Veterans Day approaches."
