Places in Washington DC

Norton to Host DC Health Link Roundtable, Friday

Jun 13, 2019
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of the National Week of Action to highlight Democratic efforts on health care, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will hold a DC Health Link Roundtable tomorrow, June 14th at 2:00 p.m.  The roundtable will feature residents discussing specific ways in which Affordable Care Act and DC Health Link, the District of Columbia’s open marketplace for health insurance, have been vital to them.  In 2017, Republicans effectively repealed the federal individual health insurance mandate, and in response, D.C. instituted its own, which has resulted in a robust and competitive health care exchange. In total, 96% of D.C. residents have health insurance, a significant majority of that number through the open market, making D.C. first in the nation in percentage of residents with health care coverage.  The event is open to the public.

Congresswoman Norton will be joined by DC Health Link’s Director, Mila Kofman, who will speak about why DC Health Link is rated so high.  Featured will be local D.C. residents and small businesses who rely on the Affordable Care Act and DC Health Link to purchase affordable care.  Republicans also attempted in 2017 to repeal the entire Affordable Care Act, which would have caused millions to lose health care coverage, like those with pre-existing conditions. That attempt was not successful, but they have made the ACA more difficult and expensive to carry out.  D.C. has found ways to keep DC Health Link up, running, and successful.
