Norton to Host League of United Latin American Citizens, Kick Off Voting Rights Campaign

October 2, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today she will host Freedom Walks, a national campaign led by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), tomorrow at the House Triangle at the U.S. Capitol as LULAC launches unity walks across 14 different cities and the District of Columbia to highlight voter registration and voting rights. From October 15 – November 3, Freedom Walks will take place across the southeastern United States and include a one-mile "walk" with a community gathering at the end with resources to inform participants about voting rights, serving as a hub for civic engagement. The Freedom Walks aim to bring diverse communities together and defend fundamental freedoms through civic engagement and voter registration.

"There is no more fundamental right than the right to vote," Norton said. "I am pleased to host and congratulate LULAC for their work on this ambitious campaign and urge all to make their voice heard in our elections, especially in the upcoming presidential election year."
