Norton to Host Meeting Today on D.C. Statehood Following Up On the Last Week Tonight HBO Segment Lampooning Congress for Denying D.C. Residents Their Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will host a meeting with supporters of the New Columbia Admission Act (H.R. 317), her bill to make the District of Columbia the 51st state, today, Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in 2253 Rayburn House Office Building. Residents will discuss HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver's 17-minute segment and D.C. statehood. Norton introduced her D.C. statehood bill in January with a historic number of original cosponsors (93). Senator Tom Carper introduced the companion bill in the Senate with a record 17 original cosponsors, including the top four Senate Democratic leaders.
