Norton to Host Roundtable on Combating Sexual Assault on DC College Campuses, April 23
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that Norton will host a roundtable commemorating National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in April entitled, "Combating Sexual Assault on Campus: A Search for Realistic Remedies," at American University Ward 1 Auditorium (4400 Massachusetts Ave. NW) on Thursday, April 23, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The goal of the roundtable is to help colleges and universities in the District of Columbia develop solutions to prevent campus sexual assault. A panel of university officials sitting with Norton will hear the concerns and recommendations of local university students and advocacy groups.
"Sexual assault is an ongoing crisis here and on our college campuses nationwide," Norton said. "This is a problem that can be solved where our best and brightest are groomed for the future if it is addressed full-on by college administrations and students themselves. Education, candid discussion, outreach, and appropriate sanctions are among the tools that need to be put to work. We will seek the advice and recommendations of those most concerned and most involved at our April 23 roundtable."
