Norton to Introduce Performers at ‘SummerSet DC’ Lunchtime Music Performance on the National Mall, Today
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will introduce the performers at this week's "SummerSet DC" performance on the National Mall today, Thursday, May 24, 2018, at noon, on the National Mall at 7th St. and Jefferson St. SW (in front of the National Air and Space Museum). SummerSet DC is a free lunchtime music series featuring performances by a wide variety of local artists every Thursday from noon – 2:00 p.m. on the National Mall. SummerSet DC, formerly known as "Music on the Mall," was established by Norton in 2012. SummerSet DC is presented by the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, in cooperation with Norton's office and the National Park Service.
Today's performance will feature Sara Ghebremichael, Smoke-D and Gramophonic. Sara Ghebremichael is a singer-songwriter native to D.C. whose appreciation for American and African roots music, especially the blues. Smoke-D, aka Darrell Brawner, is a rap artist whose lyrics ranges from hardcore Gangsta Rap to a more serious, but less explicit style. Gramophonic is a D.C.-based band featuring cello, accordion, mandolin, fiddle, guitars, percussion, a tap dancer, and an assortment of Afghan/Central Asian instruments.
